Birthday Report
I really did have a nice birthday. Not that anyone would expect anything different knowing my husband. We had already had cake on Sunday but I scored and got another cake on my b-day (Tom decorated it himself). I had lunch with some women in the ward, flowers were waiting for me in the car, balloons and dinner underway when I got home and presents, can't forget those. I love getting really practical gifts. I got new razors, mascara and hair accessories. Speaking of practical gifts, for Christmas one of my most favorite gifts was an electric pencil sharpener. Once you have a kid in first grade you need pencils all the time. I did get a Kitchen Mill wheat grinder for my birthday so I can start making bread. Bread prices keep climbing. Not so good.
So thank you to everyone who made my day nice and special.
Attack of the Worms
It's been raining all day and worms are now covering any concrete/asphalt surface. It is icky but has not stopped my kids from collecting them in their bug catchers. Samantha picks the worms up with the little plastic tweezers that come with the bug catchers of course!

I totally filled out a Bracket for the NCAA March Madness. Go for it! It's fun. Tournament starts tomorrow.

Weekend
Happy Cake Day to me! Birthday still to come...
Our weekend was lovely. Fun weekend, family and basketball. Family and food. It was nice. I did not get enough pictures. We have already started birthday festivities for me! We had cake yesterday with presents coming on Tuesday, my actual birthday.

Hamsters and Stuff
This is going to be a crazy jumbled post, kind of like my last one. Many things rolled into one. This post will also feature the most recent pictures from my camera :)
Don't ask me why but we are breeding hamsters. There really isn't a reason other then we now have a boy hamster and a girl hamster. And because if I put myself in my 6 year olds shoes, I am very excited for baby hamsters. In a round about way it teaches the beauty of the birds and bees to the kiddies without coming right out and explaining things in details. That will come a little later on.
For Christmas Samantha got two girl hamsters and her cousin got two boy hamsters (we found them on KSL for free). We have exchanged one girl for one boy to see what happens. We'll know in about 16 days if babies arrive. That is total gestation for dwarf hamsters. wow! In the picture below the boy (junior) and the girl (crystal) are getting acquainted. We let them run around in the same cage for a while then we put the girl back in her cage. If you see in the picture Crystal, the grayish black hamster, is on the wheel running like crazy to get away from Junior. As you can see Junior is patiently waiting for her to come to her senses.
Sadie's wild hair is taking up half of the picture.

This is what I am eating nowadays. (embrace the beans people) Eating right takes more prep but it is worth it. I am getting serious about eating right not necessarily to lose weight (although I have 15 I need to drop) but more for good old wholesome health.
Today it was almost 50 degrees and that means, to the kids, picnic on the porch. Samantha came home from school and was coordinating a picnic right away.
Samantha is really into jump roping right now. She loves it and since I found this jump rope in the garage she has been jumping inside, outside, whenever and wherever. This morning right before she was leaving for school she had Tom and I turning the rope for her.
And finally my new lamp. This is officially my first purchase from a yard sale in 2011. Yes there were two yard sales last Saturday and I was at one of them. I found this lamp for $2 and it's perfect next to my computer. At night I can have it on instead of the bright 5-bulb ceiling light. It's all in a effort to conserve energy. Look at me going green. wink, wink. (Not really)

Our Digital World
I love that we live in the digital age. Just the fact that I can take pictures of whatever and post them to this blog with the click of a button is so cool and I definitely take full advantage of it. I also love blogs as mentioned below. Long before Blogger existed I thought how it would be neat if there were family web sites. Along came blogs and here we are. Over the course of the last couple days I've had my camera ready for all sorts of picture moments. Like this one of Samantha holding Sadie up to the keyboard to play it.
Or this fun picture of Sadie sitting with the boys eating red licorice and watching Scooby doo. (That is one thing I always wonder about; do I put the picture captions on the top or bottom of the pictures. I've done it both ways so I hope it's not confusing)
Then there was Sunday afternoon when we milked a coconut. We love the bountiful baskets (produce coop) that we participate in almost every Saturday. We never know what we are going to get. This week it was coconuts among other goodies, the mangos were fabulous. The kids were thrilled to open the coconut up. First making the holes by pounding in a nail.
Then shaking out the milk. Coconut milk is more watery then milky. And apparently very good for you. I guess next to mothers milk the next healthiest. Thats just what I read on the internet.
Last night I wanted to take a picture of the kids from the back so i could compare height. Sadie just didn't get what we were doing so she wouldn't stand still. But Seth is definitely the tallest and Sadie is definitely the shortest. But can I say that that girl must be growing. She is going to eat us out of house and home. The last couple of days I feel like I have fed her non-stop. She downs food like no other 1 year old. Don't the kids look so happy about taking pictures. ;)
